Hand-made Beaded Jewelry
Veronica is a single mother of five children. As the sole bread-winner of her home for many years, she was searching for work that would give her the flexibility to care for her children while also earning enough money to provide for their needs.
Some ladies in her community were beading bracelets, and Veronica easily picked up the skill. Through the mentoring she is receiving in the Paradigm Shift program, Veronica’s bracelets have been elevated to a whole new level of excellence and style.
Veronica has not lived an easy life, but determination, courage and unwavering commitment to her family have marked her life.
A mother of five children, Veronica lost her husband and became the sole caregiver to her young brood. She moved from rural South Africa to the urban jungle of Johannesburg, looking for a better life and work.
There her family moved in with some older ladies who took her in and taught her the traditional craft of making African jewelry with beads. This gave her the flexibility to care for her children and make an income. She then had enough to build a tin shack for her family so they could have their own “home”. There she dreamed of all her children being able to get a good education and developing a strong faith in Christ.
A few years later, her son died in a tragic fire which burned the shack and everything she owned to the ground. This left her again with nothing, wondering what was to become of her life and her family.
But she started again, working hard and sacrificing all she could to see that her children not only completed high school, but went on to top universities where they are now accessing good jobs and breaking out of the cycle of poverty for future generations of their family.
While being a part of Paradigm Shift, Veronica has learned how to price her products and better source her raw materials. She is being mentored by one of South Africa’s famous jewelry designers, who is teaching her how to utilize precious gems and jewels into her designs, making it possible for her reach new markets and make a higher profit.
Veronica recently moved into a proper brick home, with two bedrooms, electricity and indoor plumbing––a first for her family. She says, “God answers prayers. No matter how bad it got, I always knew God was listening. He has provided more for me than I could have ever dreamed. And there is more to come.”
